A clinical psychologist whose practice continued until her passing, Thea was also an avid violinist, and golfer and dancer before she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. In 2007 Thea married Edie Windsor, who later successfully won the landmark case in which the United States Supreme Court held that restricting U.S. federal interpretation of “marriage” and “spouse” to apply only to heterosexual unions, by Section 3 of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) was unconstitutional under the Due Process Clause of the Fifth Amendment.
